Article One Featured Researcher Interview

This week, Article One interviewed Researcher Genius, a native of Bhopal, India. Discovering us by surfing the web, she started her patent research with Article One – and was quite a quick learner! Since mid-2010, she has utilized her technical prowess to systematically locate great prior art.

Genius plans on expanding on her talents by becoming a freelance patent researcher.  She is currently pursuing a post-graduate diploma in Intellectual Property to complement her degree in Electronic Engineering. Genius enjoys the flexibility inherent in working with Article One, and tends to choose Studies that she can easily understand.

Article One Partners: Genius, which research tools do you frequently use?

Genius: Google, Google Scholar, Espacenet, JPO, Google Patents etc.

AOP: What is your primary language? Are you fluent in any other languages?

G: My primary language is English and I am also fluent in Hindi.

AOP: In which language(s) do you conduct your research?

G: Only in English.

AOP: Was the prior art that you found for your winning study digitized or hard copy?

G: I had to use the machine translation of a Japanese patent. Although a digitized copy was available, it was in Japanese and thus I needed to transform it into a language I could read.

AOP: What was the process that led you to the winning prior art?

G: I usually try and have a clear understanding of the patent in question, and usually try to find a few results of high quality that are very relevant to the Study.

AOP: What did you do with the reward money?

G: I plan to go on vacation soon!

AOP: What advice would you give to a new Researcher participating in his/her first Article One Study?

G: To be patient and not to expect to win a Study in the first attempt.

AOP: What would you say to somebody who was considering becoming an Article One Researcher?

G: Go for it!
