CiteSeerX ResearchThere are many different places, both in the virtual and the real world, to do patent research.  While looking for patent literature is often helpful, some of the most useful research that can be done comes from non-patent literature.  Today, we talk about one of the best online places to find non-patent literature, CiteSeerX.

A Scientific Search Engine

CiteSeerX is a search engine and digital library with a special emphasis on computer and information science.  It is entirely free to use – just one of its many strengths. It indexes over 750,000 documents, meaning there is a tremendously wide base to draw information from.  In addition, one of the resource’s stated missions is to improve the quality and ease of doing scientific research.  CiteSeerX achieves this goal by allowing its open source code to serve as a testing ground for new techniques to optimize research.  All in all, it is a fantastic location to search for prior art, as well as other scientific material.

Groundbreaking Efficiency

CiteSeerX is well known for its innovation in the digital library field.  CiteSeerX was the first search engine to utilize “autonomous citation indexing,” or ACI.  This dynamic feature allows for the quick, easy, and painless compilation of citations, meaning less time spent digging through the ends of papers looking for similar articles and more time spent actually reading.  Improvements like this greatly improve the efficiency of research.  CiteSeerX also offers a number of other extremely helpful features, automating much of the research process that can easily suck away the researcher’s time on other search engines.

A Scientific Repository

All of these features make CiteSeerX an invaluable tool for researchers, both those working with Article One and those not.  Its vast collection of articles and papers, along with its easy to use and helpful set of features mean that CiteSeerX should be a favorite bookmark of any prior art researcher.

Other than CiteSeerX, you can find more helpful tools and resources here. Don’t forget to put these databases to good use and begin researching with AOP today to win between $5,000 and $20,000 per study!
