ArchPatent is a brand new, free-to-use patent search resource that caters to both experienced and beginner researchers. The beta site went public on October 11th, and as of October 15th the available cache of patents extends back to 1920. The search engine uses “faceted filtering to mine data and deliver superior prior art results,” says Jason Martin, ArchPatent CTO. All of these features and future access make ArchPatent an easy choice as a Featured Resource.
“ArchPatent makes it easier than ever before to get to the results you’re looking for quickly. We designed it specifically for inventors, lawyers, and IP researchers who are frustrated with the difficulty of using existing patent search tools. By providing simple yet powerful filtering tools, ArchPatent can drastically reduce search times, and our intuitive workspace functionality can greatly simplify larger, more complex search tasks. ArchPatent was built from the ground up to support the workflow demands of our users.” – Brad Chassee, ArchPatent CEO
Researcher-Focused Features
While ArchPatent currently focuses on US patents, the site is working to provide access to European, Japanese, and WPO patents, as well as filed applications, all in the same place. The site also offers advanced search into areas such as claims, applicant and filing date. New researchers can utilize a wide variety of “browsing” links, under categories that include Companies, Fashion, and Heating and Lighting.
Another key function already available in the beta release is the ability to save and load filtered searches. Registered users are able to access saved patents, saved searches, and search history. This allows researchers to conveniently and flawlessly keep track of progress in extended searches. While many Article One Researchers currently track their work in spreadsheets, this should help to make the search process much more efficient!
Tony Rainoldi, ArchPatent COO, indicated that the platform "was designed with the end user in mind." Features Tony mentioned include "a handy workspace function for saving patents and searches and a variety of filtering and sorting tools that allow the user to ‘slice and dice’ information quickly and efficiently." He also noted that their product was "developed by aerospace engineers and managers who specialize in data analysis and management.”
Upcoming Releases
Many more features are in the works for integration in future releases, according to the ArchPatent newsletter. These will include “collaborative workspaces,” matching of search terms within a single claim, filtering and advanced processing based on patents referenced, and in-page PDF display. Keep an eye out for these great features to roll out in coming months.
The ArchPatent team has made an effort to convey that they are committed to incorporating user suggestions moving forward. To make this happen, we encourage our Community to visit the site and send their team any and all feedback.
