Crowdsortium Boston Meetup on January 30th

Crowdsortium Meetup BostonOn January 30th, leaders in crowdsourcing will come together at the second annual Crowdsortium Boston Meetup at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge.  This year, Article One is proud to join local crowdsourcing firms uTest and Crowdly as primary sponsors of the event.  It will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 pm and feature a panel of industry experts, including Jeff Howe, the “Father of Crowdsourcing.”  The Meetup is free, open to the public, and sure to be a fantastic evening!

Crowdsortium is the preeminent group of crowdsourcing industry practitioners.  The group currently includes over 280 companies, venture capitalists, and scholars, and hosts an annual Symposium in California.  Last year’s Boston Meetup was Crowdsortium’s first east coast event.  The meetup was a great success, and proved that Boston’s vibrant tech community is highly active in crowdsourcing.

Last year’s Meetup featured a keynote speech from Karim Lakhani, professor in the Technology and Operations Management Unit at Harvard Business School.  The keynote was followed by a panel of industry experts, including Jeff Howe and executives from uTest, Appswell, and Innocentive.

2012 Expert Panel

This year, the Meetup will be introduced and moderated by Jeff Howe, the man who wrote the book (and the article) on crowdsourcing, and actually coined the term in 2006.  He’s now a journalism professor at Northeastern University in Boston and continues to study, support, and write about crowdsourcing.

The panel will include Matt Johnston, CMO at uTest, and Gabe Miano, VP of Product at OnForce, among others.  uTest is the world’s largest software testing company and a pioneer of the crowdsourcing model.  The company was founded in 2007 and is based in Southborough, MA.  OnForce, founded in 2003 and based in Lexington, MA, is a provider of on-site IT services that utilizes the crowdsourcing and cloud technology to match up IT service buyers around the world with local IT service providers.

The panel discussion is titled “Community Management: Evolving From Mobs To Crowds To Communities” and will cover topics including:

  • Challenges and opportunities of managing a massive global workforce
  • Scaling a crowdsourcing business sharply, quickly and profitably
  • How to get what you want, while giving them what they want
  • Recruitment and engagement; reputation and compensation systems.
