Top 5: Patents for the Best Super Bowl Party

SuperbowlThe National Football League's Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events in the world.  While the outcome of this Sunday's game is most meaningful to the fans of the two competing teams, the event will still draw millions around the world.  In the U.S., the Big Game is an annual event that provides a reason to gather and make merry with friends on a Sunday night in the middle of winter, regardless of who wins!

Successful Super Bowl parties require extensive planning, so we've collected some patents to help you prepare for the ultimate Super Bowl party.

1. Liquid Crystal Display – US Patent 6,888,585

First, you’ll need a television on which to watch the game.  And not just any television will do—you need the biggest, brightest, and clearest.  Currently that means the liquid crystal display televisions that companies like Samsung and Sharp make in sizes up to 80 inches. That's almost the size of a Smart Car!  This patent is one of the most impactful liquid crystal patents, granted to Samsung Corp in 2005.

footballchair2. Inflatable American Football Chair – US Patent D620,268

If it’s a nail-biter of a game, which this year’s ought to be, you might spend most of the game standing up.  Nonetheless, if you’re going to sit, sit in style.  This patent is for an inflatable chair with footballs for hand rests and a helmet above the seated person’s head.  Don’t you dare call it a "novelty"!

3. “Super Bowl” – US Patent 345,896

superbowlThis pun-loving inventor wanted to commemorate a great game with an actual “super bowl.”  The side of the large serving vessel bears the roman numerals of 1991’s Super Bowl XXV, in which the New York Giants (who play in this year’s game) agonizingly defeated the Buffalo Bills, by only one point.  The patented bowl will bring positive, winning vibes to the room for Giants fans everywhere on Sunday, and will be a great receptacle for their snacks!

4. Wing Holder – US Patent 7,287,701

wingholderNothing says “Football” like chicken wings.  And nothing says “gross” like buffalo-sauce-encrusted fingers.  That includes the potential mess when chicken wings meet upholstry.  When eating in front of the television is a must, using these patented chicken wing holders should keep things clean and tidy, avoiding the “less than favorable circumstances” created by saucy wings.

5. Electric Guitar – US Application 11/267,405

If the New England Patriots (opponents of the aforementioned Giants this year) triumph on Sunday, their fans will want to let loose their yawps of victory.  In order to maximize the volume and intensity of celebration, they will likely find this patent useful: an electric guitar in the shape and likeness of the team’s so-called “Flying Elvis” logo.
